After a few more comments about the cat, the girls rushed off as quickly as they’d arrived.
He chuckled as he watched them go. “I don’t know where they get the energy.”
She snorted and rubbed her belly. “Me neither, but I could sure use some of it right about now.”
He placed a hand next to hers and got a welcoming kick from their son. “Well, hello there. Are you being gentle with your mother?” He got another soft kick in response, and Tom laughed. “Good, because she’s our treasure.” He then placed a lingering kiss on her lips.
It didn’t matter that they would soon have three children and already had several years of marriage between them, he still wanted her, still loved her, and still needed her more desperately than ever.
When he finally lifted his head, her eyes fluttered open. “Well, if this is how it is, I wholeheartedly encourage you to come home whenever you’d like during the day.”
He chuckled softly and stole another quick kiss. “As much as I love to kiss you, that’s not the only reason I’m home early.”
“Oh?”
“I have something for you.”
“Tom…you know I don’t need anything.”
“But you know how much I love to give things to you.” She rolled her eyes playfully, but didn’t argue. “Close your eyes,” he urged her.
He grinned when she quickly did as he asked, then he slipped the necklace he’d made over her head, the three charms settling perfectly on her chest. “Open.”
She looked down at his creation and gasped, tears quickly filling her eyes. “It’s beautiful,” she said breathlessly. Reaching out, she traced a finger over the two tiny, girl-shaped figurines before pausing over the third charm. A boy.
“Do you like it?” he asked, needing to hear her thoughts.
But when she glanced at him, unshed tears filling her happy eyes, he already knew.
“I love it. It’s beautiful. So perfect. The most gorgeous thing I’ve ever owned.” She pulled his head forward and kissed him. “A son?” she softly asked.
“A son.” He had no doubt in his mind. “I made it so I could add more once the others come.”
She sniffled and smiled. “Others?” she teased. “Since I’m as large as the barn, I think we should hold off on talking about adding any more for a while.”
“That’s fair.” He laughed before pulling her in close again. “After our son is born, and you’ve had some time to recover, we can start the discussions.”
But as they kissed, he knew there wouldn’t be any contention. Rosalie would welcome and love every child they made, no matter how many there were, and he would adore all his sons and daughters equally as much. How could he not? They were all a part of the beautiful, wonderful woman who made his life worth living.
He was one very, very lucky man, and he’d make sure to say his thanks to heaven every day for the rest of his life.
